Deepest congratulations to David Gross, who gave us a stunning performance of the Rachmaninoff Paganini Rhapsody. I also applaud the courage and tenacity of ISCS orchestra members, who looked the difficulties of Sibelius’s 3rd Symphony straight on and gave an excellent performance.

La Música Bonita de Alan Hovhaness
Alan Hovhanness (1911-2000) fue un Américano-Armenio de Massachusetts. Él fue un compositor popular e único. Un aficionado experto en la música del Este, él trayó las modas orientales a las radio oyentes occidentales.
Dr. Chung Park es el maestro de Frost Symphony Orchestra de la Universidad de Miami. El disco es Visions of the East (Centaur CRC 2954). Maestro Park ha dirigido un disco original, fantástico y autoritário. Visions of the East empieza con la “Oda del Templo de Sonido” que es un himno de Japon. Hovhannes y su mujer han visitado un templo muchas veces por razones espirituales y para la meditación.
El nombre de la “Sinfonía Vahakan” significa el díos pagan del viento y la fuertaleza de Armenio antigüo. La música de Vahakan sirve como una mezcla de las harmonías indias y armenias. Otra vez la modas músicales presenta del mundo de sonidos orientales al oeste.
Los otros números en Centaur CD-CRC 2954 son “El Mundo Flotando” y “La Meditación de Zeami”, estos reflejan el budísmo y el teatro Japonés de Noh.
Sobre todo la música de Hovhannes es muy sensual y bonita. Una pareja romántica deberla hacer el amor lindo a estos sonidos originales de Alan Hovhannes.
