Amazing day for students from Skyline (Idaho Falls), Blackfoot, Pocatello, Highland and Century High today. Five amazing sessions with the Trio working on the basics, hearing some educational philosophy and listening to the masters play. Here are some pics.

Having a great time working with the Marcus Roberts Trio.  On the docket for the week: All Day High School Invitational Clinic for HS jazz bands to work with the MRT, masterclass tomorrow for ISU students, two rehearsals that feel much more like play than work and our concert on Saturday night (a few, but not many, tickets available!).  The MRT are amazing musicians but also thoughtful, earnest musicians with deep and gentle souls.  It’s an honor and a pleasure to work with them.  Here’s a great impromptu talk given by Jason Marsalis on a new trend in jazz, which sounds a lot like an old trend in classical, with what appears to be similar results - the alienation of a generation of concertgoers.  Hope you enjoy!
