on the effects of the recession on civic participation.  Here’s a quote:  ”But here’s something more surprising: As the recession deepens, participation in civic activities — community organizations, volunteer groups, even church attendance and social clubs — is likely to drop.”

We’ve managed to buck the trend here, with increased ticket sales and robust participation in musical activities.  A testament to a great community.  But, I think this is a wake up call that we need to work even harder in this community and across the country to stay successful and engage audiences on their terms.  That we as musicians have an opportunity to provide a venue for civic participation is an amazing opportunity and an awesome responsibility.  That we can help to give any comfort to people in a time of need makes all of the difficulties worthwhile.

Really excited about this.  It’s going to be a great season!

Thanks to the members of the ISCS, the board the Symphony League, and all of the people who made another great season possible.  I also want to thank our patrons for the sold out houses and tremendous enthusiasm they showed this year.

Many thanks to the amazing Ahn Trio for a spectacular performance of Mark O’Connor’s new triple concerto - March of the Gypsy Fiddler.  They moved heaven and earth to get here after being snowed in by the East Coast storm and gave a concert that brought the house down after being on the road for two days straight.  Bravos also to the ISCS, who took all of the crazy schedule changes in stride and proved once again that they’re a special group of people.  What a huge honor it was to work with all of you.

What a great time we had with Acoustic Eidolon.  Great people and real, authentic music making.  Fantastic support by the Idaho State-Civic Symphony.  Another feather in their cap and more proof of their fantastic versatility.  Bravos all around!
